It ranks countries on a scale of 0 to 100. 100 marks means complete freedom of the press, which is the worst case scenario.

Countries are assessed on five contextual indicators: political context, legal framework, economic context, socio-cultural context and security.

The Paris-based Reporters Without Borders (RSF) is an international NGO. The organization aims to protect and promote media freedom. The organization has advisory status in the United Nations.
