Saint Tukaram became one of the great saints of Warakari province in the seventeenth century. Saint Tukaram was born in the village of Dehu on Vasant Panchamila-Magh Shuddha Panchamila.


Saint Tukaram worships the god Vitthal / Vithoba of Pandharpur, so he is also called the adored deity of Vitthal. Also Warakari known Tukaram as "Jagadguru". So all Warakari even today at the end of kirtan or discourse-


"Pundalik Varade Hari Vitthal,

Shri Gyandev Tukaram,

Pandharinath Maharaj ki jay,

Jai Sadguru Tukaram Maharaj ki Jai "


Thus Saint Tukaram's name is chanted and in this chanting Saint Tukaram Maharaj is remembered. Saint Tukaram is also doing many abhangs and many of his abhangs and kirtans are famous. One of them is still very famous today,


"Je ranjle ganjle, tyansi mhane jo apule ..

Tochi sadhu olkhava, dev tethechi janvava . "


From this abhanga, Saint Tukaram has shown a right path. The one who serves the poor, the one who is close to them, is the one who is a true monk, and such a person has the scent of God.


In this way, Saint Tukaram showed the right path of devotion to God and created an unbroken flame of Warkari sect. In the seventeenth century, Saint Tukaram used his abhangs and kirtans to guide the society in a proper and accurate manner. In short, Tukaram did important work of social awakening.


Birth of Saint Tukaram:


Saint Tukaram was born on 22nd January 1608 in the village of Dehu on Vasant Panchami-Shuddha Panchami. Saint Tukaram's full name was "Tukaram Bolhoba Ambile". Their original family was More.


All the people of Saint Tukaram's family were going to Pandharpur in Wari. Saint Tukaram was accompanied by his mother Kankai and father Bolhoba.


But when Tukaram was 18, his parents died. He had an older brother, Savji, and a younger brother, Kanhoba. Big brother Savji was apathetic, cruel. So the entire responsibility of the house was on Tukaram. Tukaram's marriage at an early age became the subject of Jijabai, the daughter of Appaji Gulve of Pune.



Life of Saint Tukaram:


Saint Tukaram's life went through many difficult times. His parents died when he was 18 years old. The elder brother left for Tirtha.


At that time there was a great famine in the land. It was during this famine that his first wife and child died of starvation. After some time, he married a girl named Jijabai. Tukaram's second wife, Jijabai, was very strict by nature.x


Saint Tukaram's prapancha gradually began to be ignored. And they turned away from worldly pleasures. To get peace of mind, Tukaram used to go to Bhavnath hill near Dehu village and recite the name of Lord Vitthal.


Tukaram was interviewed while searching for the eternal search for anxiety. And that is where he is believed to have appeared in the form of Parabrahma, Sri Vitthal.


Occupation of Saint Tukaram:


Saint Tukaram's business was that of a traditional lender. But because of the severe famine, they freed all the clans from their debts.


And all the documents of keeping the land dirty were thrown in the river Indrayani. Immersed in devotion to Vitthal, he got the composition of Abhanga from discourses and kirtans. Saint Tukaram was an enlightened and fearless rebellious saint poet.



Teachings of Saint Tukaram:


Saint Tukaram Maharaj's education was like that of a Sanskrit and distinguished family of that time. Tukaram also learned the art of reading and writing from the vision of running a home business. In literature and Sanskrit-Prakrit texts are found in many forms of extensive study and in-depth study.


From some of his abhangas, it seems that while he was on the path of devotion, he started searching for the path of Patanjali Yoga. As it is a Pandurang temple owned by him, Saint Tukaram got acquainted with Vitthala at an early age by listening to the daily bhajans, kirtans and puranas performed in that temple.


Tukaram came up with the idea that after some time, after meditation, devotion, asceticism and maturity, various forms of Vedic mystery appear on his voice. He confidently told everyone that we should review the meaning of Vedas.


Literature of Saint Tukaram:


Saint Tukaram has a very important place in literature. Saint Tukaram's Abhang Gathe has got the first place in Marathi literature. Four thousand abhangs of Saint Tukaram are still available today.


Apart from some events in the world, different experiences in life, Gopal Krishna's children's sports, Viranya Brahman, the realization of the principle are also found in his Abhang Roop. Saint Tukaram showed the right path to the society through his literature.


It is also said that Saint Tukaram laid the foundation of Bhagwat Dharma in Maharashtra and Tukaram ascended to the top. The formula of Saint Tukaram's style is expressed in a useful abhanga. He continued the work of establishing pure Parmartha through his life and abhanga.


Teachings of Saint Tukaram:


Saint Tukaram has said that all human beings are children of God and therefore all are equal. ‘Maharashtra Dharma’ was propagated by Saint Tukaram. His doctrine was influenced by the Bhakti movement. This had a great impact on the then social ideology of Maharashtra Dharma.

Saint Tukaram's theory of equality gradually improved the caste system, even though it had not yet succeeded in reducing the differences between the castes and the caste system. Maharashtra Dharma was used by the wealthy Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj to keep all castes together.


End of Saint Tukaram:


At the age of 40, Saint Tukaram began to feel the need to leave this world. And at age 42, he made the decision. March 9, 1650 is known as the Day of Judgment. It is said in Charitra Granth and Katha Kirtan that Sant Tukaram Maharaj boarded a plane and went to Vaikuntha.
