Taj Mahal

The Taj Mahal is one of the most important sites in the history of India. We all know that the Taj Mahal is one of the Seven Wonders of the World for India. The Taj Mahal is located in Agra, India. This powerful monument on the banks of the Yamuna, illuminated by the yellow sun every morning, can also be called a symbolic monument of India. The monument is made of white marble. It was built between 1631 and 1653 on the orders of Emperor Shah Jahan.Mumtaz Mahal, the wife of Emperor Shah Jahan, died while giving birth to her fourteenth child. Later, Emperor Shah Jahan built the Taj Mahal in honor of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. The Taj Mahal is an important example of Mughal architecture, here you will find Islamic, Iranian, Persian as well as Indian artefacts.

There have been many wars in the history of India, but fortunately the Taj Mahal was not harmed in any way. The Taj Mahal is actually a set of buildings, ponds, gardens, fountains, with a unique uniformity. There are two mosques in the Taj Mahal, one of which is not in use as it faces Mecca. In the Taj Mahal you will find three Iranian style entrances, three red brick buildings, a fountain in the center and four reservoirs in four directions.

The Taj Mahal is visited by over 4 million people every year, making it one of the most popular tourist destinations in India. Just as the Statue of Liberty is the symbol of America, the Eiffel Tower is the symbol of France, so is the Taj Mahal the symbol of India.

The reason for building the Taj Mahal

We all know that Taj Mahal is a proof of our love for our husband's wife. Shah Jahan built the Taj Mahal in memory of his late wife Mumtaz Mahal, and its grandeur matched the love he had for her. This is a very good story.

The Taj Mahal was built for Mumtaz Mahal, the third wife of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. She died on June 17, 1631, after giving birth to her 14th child. She was buried at Burhanpur, where she died. But this samadhi was temporary. Shah Jahan decided to establish a beautiful Samadhi as beautiful as his love for his wife. It took him 22 years to do so, and he destroyed the treasures of the Mughal Empire on a large scale. And 22 years later this incredible architecture was created.

There is also a myth about the Taj Mahal. According to this story, people say that another Taj Mahal was to be built on the other side of the river. This second Taj Mahal was to be built as the Samadhi of Emperor Shah Jahan. But this story is not true, archeological research has found the remains of construction here. But these remains do not belong to the second Taj Mahal but to Mehtab Bagh. It would have been impossible to build a second Taj Mahal here at that time, as the state treasury was emptied from this first construction.

Construction of Taj Mahal

To accomplish this magnificent project, the Mughal emperor had brought in a few thousand workers from the major centers of Lahore, Delhi, Shiraz and Samarkand. It is believed that the main builder was Ustad Ahmed Lahori, but the name of the real creator of the project is uncertain. The project was undertaken by Emperor Shah Jahan with great ambition. The project was as grand as it was expensive. There is no doubt that Shah Jahan wanted to overtake all the miracles in the world at that time.

Construction of the Taj Mahal took 22 years from 1631 to 1653. After completion of Samadhi and other buildings, it took Shev 5 years to build the garden. Ustad Ahmed Lahauri is credited with the construction of the Taj Mahal, but his contribution to the work is unknown compared to other architects. The buildings here were built of red sandstone, a very common stone in North India. The Taj Mahal is built of sandstone, but it is covered with marble.

In fact the architects were playing on the differences between red and white, in white they used black marble for the inscriptions. 20,000 workers were working side by side for the construction. Some artisans spent their entire professional careers on this construction. They were assisted by 1000 elephants which were used for carrying loads. Of course the workers used the right equipment, but not much is known about the construction techniques of that time.
