Sant Dnyaneshwar was a great saint of India and a famous Marathi poet. He was born in 1275 to Krishna Ashtami of Bhadrapada. The great saint Dnyaneshwar visited the whole of Maharashtra and gave the people devotion and equality of knowledge, preached equality. Apart from being a great saint of the thirteenth century, he was also considered as the pioneer of Maharashtra culture.


Saint Dnyaneshwar's early life went through many difficulties, he had to face many difficulties in his early life. When he was very young he was expelled from the caste, he did not even have a hut to live in, he was insulted like the son of a hermit. At the same time, Dnyaneshwar and his parents succumbed to the humiliation of the society.


After that Dnyaneshwar ji became an orphan but still he lived his life with great understanding and courage without any fear. When he was only 15 years old, he had completely absorbed himself in devotion to Lord Krishna.

Dnyaneshwar, the great saint of India, was born in 1275 in the village of Apegaon on the river Godavari near Paithan in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra, on the day of Shrikrishna Janmashtami, in the house of Vitthal Pant and Rukmini Bai. His father was a Brahmin.


After many years of marriage, as the father had no children, with the consent of his wife Rukminibai, he gave up the worldly temptation and went to Kashi to live a saintly life. At this time, his father Vitthal Pant made Swami Ramananda his Guru.

Some time later, when Saint Dnyaneshwar's Guru Swami Ramananda reached Alandi village during his visit to India, he met Vitthal Pant's wife and Swamiji blessed her to have children. After that, Rukminibai told Swami Ramanand ji about her husband Vitthal Pant's sannyasin.


Later a daughter Muktabai was born along with Nivruttinath, Sopandev and Saint Dnyaneshwar. Dnyaneshwar ji's father Vitthal Pant was expelled from the society and insulted for giving up his life and planetary life. After which Dnyaneshwar's parents could not bear the burden of this humiliation and they drowned in Triveni.

After the death of his parents, Saint Dnyaneshwar and all his siblings became orphans. At the same time, people did not allow him to stay in the village house, after which Saint Dnyaneshwar had to beg for food.

After many hardships and struggles, Saint Dnyaneshwarji's elder brother Nivruttinathji met Guru Gaininath. He was the guru of his father Vitthal Pant ji, who taught Nivruttinath ji to start a yogi and worship Krishna, after which Nivruttinathji also initiated his younger brother Dnyaneshwar.

After this, Saint Dnyaneshwar along with his brother went to his father's Paithan village with the intention of getting Shudipatra from great scholars and Pandits. At the same time, both of them stayed in this village for many days.


Later, seeing the miraculous power of Saint Dnyaneshwar, the people of the village started honoring him and the Pandits also gave him a certificate.

When Saint Dnyaneshwar was just 15 years old, he became a great worshiper and yogi of Lord Krishna. He was initiated by his elder brother and within a year he wrote a commentary on one of the great epics of Hinduism, the Bhagavad Gita, his later book Dnyaneshwari being the most famous.

At the tender age of 21, in 1296, Saint Dnyaneshwar, the great saint of India and eminent Marathi poet, renounced worldly lusts and attained Samadhi. His Samadhi is in the vicinity of Siddheshwara temple in Alandi. At the same time, he is still remembered for his teachings and the great texts he wrote.
