 New Parliament House of India (Project Central Vista)



On December 10, 2020, the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi inaugurated the new Parliament House. On the 75th Independence Day of the country (Amrut Mahotsavi Varsha) both the Houses (Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha) will start functioning from the new Parliament House. Construction of the building is expected to be completed by 2022. The area in which Rashtrapati Bhavan, Parliament House, North Block, South Block, India Gate and other archival offices are located in Delhi is collectively known as Central Bista. The project to build the new parliament building is the Central Vista Project.


New Parliament House Features:

The new building will be triangular.


 The building will be constructed by Tata Projects Limited.


 HCP Design and Planning and Management Pvt. Ltd. Has designed it.


 There will be a four storey building.


There will be more than 888 seats for MPs in the Lok Sabha and more than 326 seats for Rajya Sabha MPs. The Parliament Hall will have a capacity of 1,224 members at a time. This has been done keeping in view the increasing number of both the houses in future.


The area will be 64,500 square meters. 16 thousand 921 sq.m. Will be underground.


971 crore is estimated to be spent on construction.


The Central Public Works Department will be the nodal agency for the construction of the new Parliament building.


 To showcase India's democratic heritage, the building will house the 'Constituent Assembly', a lounge hall for MPs, a library, several committee rooms, dining halls and ample parking space.


 This new building will be an example of a self-reliant India that will be built entirely by Indian citizens.
